I know the real celebration won't happen until I get my insurance approval, but after going through this 6 months of waiting, I've got to celebrate at least a little to have a surgery date.
I had a great appointment with my surgeon. Thanks again for all your comments on my last post about questions I should ask him. Found out he does the surgery through the belly button, which is great news I hadn't expected. He also said he is very aggressive with fills and doesn't use a standard fill amount, but customizes according to the patient. He said he feels it's very important that the lapband patient get to restriction quickly, otherwise they get frustrated and the mental part of the process is as important as the physical. I thought that was a great perspective.
Pre-op I have to do 2 weeks of a low carb/low calorie/high protein diet, which I know compared to what most of you had to do is a walk in the park. Post-op I have 48 hours of clear liquids, 1 week full liquids and the 1 week of mushies. After that, I carefully move on to solid food. I'll be on the mushie stage during my vacation, which I'm not thrilled about, but I guess it's better than just liquids.
Do you think eating crabmeat can be considered a mushie if I eat if really slow?

Congrats on a date! And lucky you for having such a liberal surgeon!!
ReplyDeleteSounds awesome!! Congrats! I think crab meat can work as long as you eat it small amounts and slowly!
ReplyDeleteooh yes crab meat is so a mushie in my book ;-) CONGRATS CONGRATS !!!! YAY !!!!! I will keep my fingers and toes crossed for good news from your insurance company ;-)
ReplyDeleteCongratulations , you have been waiting sooo long....I hope it will give all you wish for....Roll on the 9th......
ReplyDeleteWe will be Week buddies! Congrats on the date. I wish my surgeon would use the belly button! My list of the mushies includes stuff like scrambeled eggs and lots of other "real" food. You should be fine on vacation. I am so excited for you!
ReplyDeleteOK I am a COMPLETE RETARD! I read it as June 9 not July. Still that is only a month away! disregard my retardedness!
ReplyDeleteExcellent news, Bonnie. So glad you've got a date and a good handle on your surgeon's procedures.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on the date. I am so happy for you.
ReplyDeleteI also have everything crossed that you get good news from your insurance really soon.
That is awesome! Celebrate! I always forget you are un-banded - you are such a loyal blogger! Your surgeon's approach sounds great, and the pre- and post- op sounds totally reasonable. Crabmeat def. mushy enough!
ReplyDeleteawesome news!! I remember how excited I was when I got the call from the hospital with my surgery date...think of how excited you'll be when you get the offical letter from insurance! Your surgeon sounds wonderful, and I would def. say crabmeat is a mushy!
ReplyDeleteSo excited for you!
ReplyDeleteWhoo!!! I like the sound of your surgeon--sounds like you will do great with his help!
ReplyDeleteCongrats!
ReplyDeleteYay for a surgery date! Your surgeon sounds like he really understands what band patients go through. I'm hoping you get a quick approval from the insurance company.
ReplyDeleteHip hip hooray!
ReplyDeleteCongrats!!! I did crap meat and soft fish in the mushy stage. My nut wasn't the happiest, but it worked for me. I found that when eating out during that phase soup, crab cakes and stuffed fish seemed to work best. The way my doc explains it is if you could eat it without teeth then it is a mushy.
ReplyDeleteOMG! I am so excited for you Bonnie!
ReplyDeleteThank you for being there for me during this crazy time! I love you!
YES!!! That is so great. Mushies aren't so bad. I will even confess that I ate some solids during my mushy week so don't worry about your vacation. You'll be so happy by that time to be eating food again it won't matter!
ReplyDeleteThat's awesome! It's just around the corner and approval is imminent!
ReplyDeleteAnd I wouldn't worry about mushies on vacation, per se. A lot of us start eating solid food sometime during that week of mushies. Whatever you decide to do is based on what your body will tolerate and there are lots of things that are actually mushy when you look for them.
Way to go! Looking forward to sharing this journey with you!
