I was at work in Baltimore City and my mom called me frantic because there is a building called the trade center which wasn't far from my building. At first she thought it was that building. We had a big meeting that afternoon at a local hospital, so I had to keep doing business as usual. As it turned out, the hospital wouldn't allow us to hold the meeting in their conference room because they were on emergency alert in case they needed to handle any cases from DC. I asked my Mom to pick up my girls from school just because I wanted to know they were safe. As a side note, a friend of mine was rushing home to her kids and accidentally ran a stop sign. Can you believe that a police officer actually pulled her over and gave her a ticket? I mean, seriously? Not just a warning on a day like that? What an ass.
2. What is your idea of fun? If given the chance to skip work/life for an entire day, what would you do? (assume you’d be by yourself)
I'm not a big fan of going out by myself so I'd probably just chill at home watching bad tv and reading good blogs. However, once I lose a ton of weight, I will look forward to doing some serious shopping.
3. Suggestion from a follower. Some blog questions.
How many blogs do you follow? Around 120
Do you read them all or just your faves? I try to read them all, but if I don't read for a few days I get behind, so I try to catch up as much as I can.
Do you comment a little, a lot, on all? I try to comment on all.
Have you ever unfollowed someone because of something they said or you didn’t like their blog? I don't even know how to unfollow someone, but don't think I would.
Do you routinely unfollow and why? No
4. Repeat question. Pick one day and one healthy thing you’ll do for just that day next week. It seems like every day is healthy day now!
I'm getting banded on Friday. Yikes!
5. Repeat "Make someone a superstar" question. Whose blog or blog comment stuck with you this week and why?
I have to say I'm a little excited about having another male blogger. Linda's hubby, Rick got banded Friday and has started his own blog, Band Together. And before your minds all go in the gutter about why I'm excited, let's remember I am happily married. Linda and I work about 10 minutes from each other and I've had the pleasure of meeting her in person. I'm happy that her hubby got the surgery he wanted and is doing well. I'm also hoping that Linda and Rick (and their cutie daughter Cate) will come over and hang out with my husband, kids and I at our pool after I recover from surgery.
Speaking of which, I am FREAKING OUT about my surgery on Friday. I have never had surgery except when I was 5 I had a lazy eye corrected. The only thing I remember is waking up and crying for my Mommy and some nurse (I assume) yelling that if I ever want to see my mommy again, I better stop crying. NICE! I'm not sure what I'm afraid of. I totally trust my surgeon and am not afraid of dying. I think first I'm afraid that he'll open me up and find that my liver is too big or something funky and he can't give me the band. My mom had liver problems and I'm a little nervous that I'll have the autoimmune issues that she had. Second, I'm afraid of waking up in pain. I don't think I'm a wuss or anything, but I've heard some accounts of what it feels like right after surgery and I am nervous. Third, I'm afraid that the band won't work for me and everybody will unfollow me because I won't lose any weight and nobody will want to read my non-losing posts.
I'll be glad when Friday is over. I know the first 3 days will probably be pretty crappy, but at least the surgery will be behind me.

Great BYOC answers.
ReplyDeleteI know you are going to do great Friday! Don't be afraid to ask for pain medication if you are even the slightest bit uncomfortable!! I wish I would have been more proactive, myself.
Totally normal to have presurgery jitters. You will get your band, everything will go smoothly, and you will lose weight. It may not go quickly, but it will go. Hang in there!
ReplyDeleteyou will do awesome! it is a slow process but so worth the bumps along the way!
ReplyDeletePS- you are great at leaving comments!!!!
You're going to do great! Hang in there and rely on all these people that have been through this. We will not unfollow you I promise.
ReplyDeleteOh please don't fret about the surgery. It was the easy part. I didn't realize it was so close. And they have lots of nice pain pills to take off the edge. I worried about the band not working for me, but I will state emphatically that it does. If you have problems we are all here to coach you on. Don't worry-be happy. Think of how your life will be in 1 year! I won't unfollow you either.
ReplyDeleteOh, it's so normal to be nervous, but I know us saying that doesn't change how nervous you are. I'll get more details about your surgery when we talk Tuesday. I think Friday for surgery is the way to go. You just get through the weekend and by Tuesday you feel pretty good again.
ReplyDeleteJust think of everyone's awesome before/afters and honestly by next year you'll forget the actual surgery.
Listen to these gals...they're experts. Surgery is nothing to worry about. You'll be on the other side before you know it.
ReplyDeleteGood luck to you.
You will do great, I just know it. When I first woke up in the PACU, they asked me how I was feeling. I said I had a headache and I was a bit nauseous and before I knew it I was waking up again and had neither problem. Whatever they gave me worked and knocked me back out, LOL!
ReplyDeleteI hope your recovery goes as smoothly as mine did. Be sure to keep us updated when you can.
you're gonna do AWESOME on friday! my first 2 days were REALLY bad for me....but each day got better. today is day four and i'm just mildly uncomfortable...lol. i'm so excited for you! :)
ReplyDeleteTotally worth it and it will be over before you know it.
ReplyDeleteYou know we will be waiting for you on the other side of surgery.
I'll admit that I had some pain when I woke up from surgery. But, the nurse was VERY proactive about controlling it. In fact, I never had to ask for anything. She kept coming to me to ask if I needed more pain medicine. Once, when I indicated that the pain was minor, she gave me some anyway because "I might as well give you all of it while you're here."
ReplyDeleteIt's exciting to be so close to surgery - after waiting for so long. But I know how you feel with being anxious. I felt pretty good in the hospital - the morphine rocked! And you're good to be realistic about feeling lousy for a few days. Days 2-4 were definitely the hardest for me. I felt pretty much back to my old self by day 6. Good luck! It's a brief blip in this long term journey!!
ReplyDeleteBonnie, I am so happy that your Surgery day is finally almost here!
ReplyDeleteYou have always been so supportive to all of us that have already had their Surgery! So now it is time for us to support you!!
I truly hope that your Surgery and recovery goes as smoothly as mine did. I barely had any pain at all compared to most of the others, as I didn't have the gas pains. The only pain that I had was from my Port site.
So remember, if you feel the need to pass gas, PASS IT! I didn't hold it in even in the Hospital and I had no GAS PAINS at all!! Of course, I felt sorry for the poor Nurses that had to enter my room all night!! LOL
Hi Bonnie,
ReplyDeleteYour big day is coming up FAST! Its normal to be nervous, but it will all go well. :-) The pain really is not that bad, and the nurses tend to be really on top of it all. Get the meds PRIOR to feeling pain. :-)
Good luck...and NO ONE will unfollow you. Especially not me. :-)

Hey Bonnie, YOU are my FIRST comment posted!! No worries about the nerves, you'll do great! GBMC is a good gig, I went there two years ago to first look into the band and was impressed (didn't follow up because I wasn't ready, nothing on them). Just think of how great things will get on the "other-side" and let that get you through, and if that doesn't work have them slip you a little something-something when you get there ;)
ReplyDeleteOh yay, paim med are great and be sure to ask as soon as you need them. The fear fo the band not working must be more commin than I relaized. At 1st I did not think I had one, But it dose take time more than I thought. So good luck and wecome to band world.
